To Obtain a Certificate of Occupancy
A Certificate of Occupancy is required if a residence is changing occupants.
Certificate of Occupancy Applications are available for completion at Borough Hall.
The fee of $45.00 is payable to the Borough of West Long Branch.
For a rental property which is changing occupants, a Rental Unit Registration Form must accompany the Certificate of Occupancy Application. These forms are also available at Borough Hall. The fee for a Rental Registration is $100.00.

Basic Requirements for a Certificate of Occupancy
The following is a basic review of the requirements for a Certificate of Occupancy and may not cover all items:
Cut grass
Outside of house free of garbage
Outside of house is in good order (paint,gutters, sidewalks etc)
Fire Extinguisher in kitchen (2A 10BC or ABC 5 LB)
GFI outlets near all water
Smoke detector on every floor and within 10ft of every bedroom
CO detector within the direct vicinity of each sleeping area
Running water
Heat (Oct-April)
All utilities turned on
Attached garage w/door to house must be fire rated or solid core
All windows must open properly
No double key locks on doors
Visible house #
For Rental Properties add the following requirements:
Inspection must be done prior to occupying.
Every change of occupants requires new inspection.
